At the begining of February 2002, on a cold Sunday afternoon dwarfed by looming snow leaden sky, I was privileged to witness a fantastic spectacle of the ruthless majesty of nature, when a huge bird of prey landed on the Legananny Dolmen an its cruel talons held a blackbird.

With the sinking sun streaking the sky, vivid rays of colours heralded the imminent sunset as the sun, descended behind the Mourne Mountains in County Down.

The buzzard perched for on the ancient stone table, the last desperate screeches of the Blackbird rent the air, as the large bird leisurely ate it, before flying off with the remains in its claw. If only I had a camera to hand, there was one in the boot, but to get it would have disturbed the bird, so we could only marvel at our rare good fortune in witnessing this, prehistoric bird table in use. Imbloc was traditional Celtic feast that was held on the 2nd of Febuary and celebrated the new beginings of Spring.
